Didy Jacobsen

Didy Jacobsen was born on June 26, 1955 in the small village of Harskamp in the middle of Holland, where she grew up. Her original career was as a hairdresser.

Following a course on Doll making she began to make her now famous one of a kind newborn Babies. Didy is particularly fascinated with infants and her inspiration comes from watching babies closely. Peeping into baby carriages is irresistible to Didy, their expressions can change from peaceful slumber to happy smiles and these varying emotions are beautifully portrayed in each individual family member of Didy's babies.

Her originals are created from Modelene, a polymer clay like Fimo that has to be baked in an oven. The Babies are aprox 20" long , have glass eyes and are fitted with the finest handmade wigs. The bodies are soft to cuddle & clothed in outfits always of natural colours, designed and made by Didy herself. The Babies come signed by the artist, along with a precious little heart drawn by Didy to kiss them on their way to their new families.

Since 1999 her work has also been produced in vinyl by the well know doll manufacturer Gotz Puppenfabrik .

(Left) The start of a new head. A polystyrene ball is cut to form the basic shape and glass eyes are fixed in place with Modelene.

(Right) Lengths on polystyrene waiting to be turned into hands and arms together with the finished hand that Didy is seen working on above.

The finished article. A one of a kind, never to be repeated Baby, just like the real thing

Without the nappies........

                   the screams and tears......

                         the sleepless nights......
